Localização: Descrição:Admission requirements: The successful candidate has sound prerequisites in wireless communication systems doctoral level and possesses strong wireless communications analytical, development, simulation and modelling research skills. Mathematical skills on radio resource management, event-driven simulation and information theory are definitely an asset to the planned research, as well as energy aspects involved in wireless/mobile communications, electronics design, as well as strong knowledge on C, C++, C# and Visual Studio.Workplan : The fellow will design a dedicated integrated circuit for future WSN applications. The next generation of wireless communication devices must be able to optimally use limited resources such as radio spectrum and energy while providing higher data rate communication. WSN networks are also not exception of this rule. Although in compare with other networks, WSNs support lower data rate and consume less amount of energy but it is expected that next generation of WSNs provide higher data rate and operate in wider radio spectrum. Reducing power consumption is essential to use energy harvesting technologies in WSNs.
In fact, during last years, several ICs have been designed and widely used in many fields of WSN applications. Almost all of them follow a classic transceiver design in which energy-efficiency and providing new features are main design key. Although such a design satisfies many applications it is useless in face of new demand for the next generation. New designs must then be able to operate in wider radio spectrum, support almost all modulation techniques and cognitive radio capabilities.
In the research from this grant, the goal is to design an standalone (as long as possible) SoC IC including a wide range transmitter, receiver, spectrum sensing, signal processing, ADC and DAC converters, and other digital processing and interface parts.
Apart from the research and publication activities, the research fellow will contribute actively to the management tasks of the project, reporting, student and early stage researchers supervision, organization of workshops and meetings, proposal of special sessions in conferences, communication and dissemination of the project as well as preparation of outreach activities and new research projects and initiatives to promote the continuation of the collaboration and the impact of the research.Legislation and regulations applicable: A fellowship will be celebrated according to the regulations defined by FCT “Regulation of Instituto de Telecomunicações’ fellowships” and ”Regulation of Advanced Training and Qualification of Human Resources”, in accordance with Law no. 40/2004, dated August 18 (Status of Scientific Research Fellow), as amended and republished by Decree-Law No.202/2012 of August 27, and as amended by Decree-Law No.233/2012 of October 29 and by Law No.12/2013 of January 29, and Decree-Law No. 89/2013 of July 9, and also by Fundação para Ciência e Tecnologia, I.P. Fellowship Regulation of Fundação para Ciência e Tecnologia, I.P., approved by Regulation no. 234/2012, published in Series II of Diário da República of June 25 of 2012, amended and republished by Regulation no. 326/2013, published in Series II of Diário da República of July 27 of 2013 and amended by Regulation no. 339/2015, published in Series II of Diário da República of June 17 of 2015.
