Localização: LisboaDescrição:The Institute of Social Sciences – University of Lisbon invites candidates to apply for Research Grants as Postdoctoral Fellows. Three posts will be awarded within the framework of “TRANSRIGHTS: Gender citizenship and sexual rights in Europe: Transgender lives from a transnational perspective” (615594), funded by the European Research Council (ERC) and coordinated by Dr. Sofia Aboim.
Candidates are expected to work within the TRANSRIGHTS project, which investigates transgender lives as well as the institutional apparatus that frames them in five European countries: Portugal, France, United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Sweden. Three lines of inquiry will be developed: 1) analysis of gender politics and rights; 2) examination of institutional frameworks; 3) study of trans-lives, including the immigration of trans-individuals to Europe. Preference will be given to researchers with previous qualitative fieldwork experience with vulnerable groups and discriminated minorities in Europe or elsewhere. In addition, it is expected that applicants demonstrate critical engagement with the field of gender and the politics of gender, citizenship and social justice. More specifically, posts will be awarded to researchers focusing in one of the three different areas: Vulnerability, bio-power, health and inclusion; Migrations, post-colonialism and cultural difference/inequality; Gender orders and trans-biographies.
Other admission requirements: qualitative skills, including fieldwork experience (ethnographies, interviews, life stories, documental analysis, etc.); excellent fluency in the English language is mandatory; knowledge of Portuguese, French, Swedish or Dutch will be an advantage; availability for frequent travels and prolonged stays in the countries covered by the project.
Contract duration and pay scale: 12 months, with 3 months of probation period contingent on a satisfactory performance, starting from September 1st 2015. The grants might be extended up to a full period of 4 years. Salary will be of 1.495,00€ per month, according to the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) Research Grants pay scale (http://alfa.fct.mctes.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores.phtml.pt). It includes the payment of personal accident insurance and voluntary social insurance. Please note that this grant is not taxable. In addition, annual fees for expenses with international conferences will be available.
Workplace: The work will be developed in the Institute of Social Sciences of the University of Lisbon (Instituto de Ciências Sociais – ULisboa), and other places necessary for the execution of the work plan.
