Mobility Support by Shared Control and Advanced Human-Machine Interfaces, with the following characteristics:Number of grants: 1Type of activity: Services like Google Earth and Apple Maps allow the remote 3D visualization of urban scenes (e.g., big cities). However, since models are obtained through satellite images, we are only able to perform “fly-overs”, i.e. the remote user cannot have a real perspective of streets at ground level. Such kind of perspective is given by services like Google Streetview, with the disadvantage that users are limited to the point of view of the vehicle that captured the images. The main goal of this work is to propose an immersive experience, where the user can “walk” freely on the street, which implies that we must be able to perform a detailed 3D reconstruction of the urban scene with images acquired at the ground level.
The project is partially supported by Google, Inc through a “Research faculty Award” and the idea is to exploit the fact that urban landscapes are dominated by planar surfaces to considerably simplify the reconstruction task.Financial support: Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia através do projeto RECI/EEI-AUT/0181/2012 e pelo FEDER, através do Programa Operacional Factores de Competitividade do QREN com referência COMPETE: FCOMP-01-0124-FEDER-027501.Applicant profile: Master of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Informatics Engineering, or a similar Engineering area, which have obtained outstanding academic grades.Location: Department of Eletrotechnical Engineering and Computers, of the Faculty of Science and Technology, of University of Coimbra.Duration: 6 months.Renewal: Eventually renewable.Scientific Orientation: The scientific orientation of the grant will be ensured by Professor João Pedro de Almeida Barreto.Financial conditions: The amount of the scholarship is 980, 00€, paid monthly at the end of the month by bank transfer. This amount is increased by the voluntary social security corresponding to the first level, in case the candidate elects this possibility, as well as personal accidents insurance.Regime: The attribution of the scholarship does not generate or entitle a relation of a legal-labour nature, is undertaken in an exclusive dedication regime and attributed to the Scholar within the Scholar Statute of the University of Coimbra, based on the Regulation of Research Scholarships of the University of Coimbra (Decree no. 5120/2005, 2nd Series, DR no. 48, of 9 March, Deliberation no. 23/2005, of 5 January, of the Senate of the University of Coimbra).Selection methods: Curriculum analysis (60%) and interview (40%) to the best two ranked candidates in the CV assessment.Selection and attribution criteria: The selection will be based in several criteria with particular emphasis in: (1) CV and academic record, (2) priori experience in topics directly related with the work program, and (3) performance during the interview.
The ranking will be done accordingly to the formula 0.65*M+0.35*P where M refers to CV/Academic record and P refers to prior experience relevant for the work program.Formalization of application: Applications should include: the candidate’s Curriculum Vitae that may include a valid copy of the Diploma indicating the final average or individual grades; other elements that he/she considers relevant. After the release of the results, candidates are considered automatically notified to, if they wish to do so, comment on the results on a preliminary hearing period within 10 days after that date. After this, the selected candidates will have to declare in writing their acceptance and communicate the effective date of the beginning of the scholarship. Unless a justification worthy of consideration is presented, if the declaration is not submitted within the referred period, it is considered that the candidate waivers the scholarship. In case of resignation or withdrawal of the selected candidate, the next candidate with the highest evaluation score will be notified immediately.
